8th Juni 2010, Improving Madeira's competitive position in hospitality
Arthur D. Little was invited by the Portuguese Regional Secretary for Transport and Tourism (SRTT) to conduct a workshop with the Madeiran hospitality sector about "Innovative revenue concepts and marketing measures". Almost the entire upper management level of the islands' hotel sector gathered in order to discuss new pricing and marketing approaches in a difficult business environment. Due to effects of the world economic crisis and an intense increase of bedcapacity, occupation levels and room rates had come under pressure - a situation which holds true for most destinations worldwide. Arthur D. Little outlined its "Margin Management and Pricing Excellence" approach and adapted it in interactive sessions to the hospitality sector. As a result, a broad range of innovative "Pricing à la Carte" measures could be derived. Both the number of participants and the triggered intra- and intersectoral cooperation was considered "historic" by the Secretary, Dra. Conceição Estudante.
